Company history

1901

John Hansen establishes his own plant for rubber articles with one worker and one apprentice in Hildesheim. As the first product line he creates an eraser collection, later plaited packings are produced.

1907

After inclusion of asbestos rubber, "fabrick-wrapped sealings" and ring manufacturing, the production facilities in Hildesheim are too small. In Hannover-Wülfel a plant ground is acquired and set up a modern production. The workforce has grown to 70 employees.

1912

Due to the brilliant order situation, the headcount increases to 120 employees. The product range is expanded to include the production of technical soft rubber products and the second hose hall was opened. To meet the increased management request, John Hansen's brother Paul occures in the management.

1924

After the setbacks of World War 1 and a successful rebuilding, the production was expanded and converted to electricity - 300 employees produce, technical rollers and asbesth high pressure plates were produced.

1943

Heavy air strikes in the summer and autumn destroy 80% of the factory halls. Despite difficult conditions, the production is beeing continued until March 1945 when the plant is almost completely destroyed.

1948

The reconstruction has been completed in spite of many difficulties, and on the occasion of the first Export Fair in Hannover Gummi Hansen presents a wiede product range to old and new business partners.

1960

Now, that the established range is beeing sold successfully, new target groups will be developed: special products and trends for the state enterprises, Federal Railways, Federal Post and the Bundeswehr (German Armee).

1970

New production facilities allow the production of innovative specialty products: synthetic rubber FKM. These fluoroelastomers are designed for extreme conditions and attract new customers.

1980

Europe is too small for Gummi Hansen. Due to high demands of technical products, the export businesses are beeing expanded. In addition to this successful development, a new important target group is obtained: the automobil industry.

1990

The German reunification will also change the strategic direction of the company. The opening of the branch in Halle (1992), the acquisition of the tire plant Heidenau (1993) and the move to the new plant in Hanover (1994) complete the sales and product concept successfully. With the special sealant product Heat-Fix a new product is patent protected again.

2001

At the 100th anniversary, the Group presents an excellent position. Ultramodern production and distribution structures at all 3 locations, worldwide trading networks in over 50 countries and 270 employees are encouraging for the next 100 years.

2010

Gummi Hansen expands its machinery range with an extruder for large extrudates and manufactures henceforth profiles up to a width of 340 mm, a height to 130 mm and a max. Meter weight of about 65 Kg.

Thanks to the according new autoclave, these profiles can also be vulcanized lying up to 13 m. This allows Gummi Hansen now to to increase successfully i.a. the water building business. The press department also allows corner vulcanized large profile frames.

2014

Managing change. The next generation takes the helm. Jens Szymanek, recently authorized for finance, administration and controlling, is CEO.

Gummi Hansen expanded its range to products from Aflas® and is the world's only manufacturer of autoclave vulcanized rings and frames.
