High-quality wrapped articles and roller coverings by Gummi Hansen

"cores" and "mandrels"

A successful production branch of Gummi Hansen is the manufacturing of high-quality wrapped articles and roller coverings. At the heart of this process are the so-called "cores" and "mandrels" – the base upon which these products are built.

An overview of our "core" competencies:

  • ✅ Blank sheets: We use high-bonding blank sheets that form the basis for wrapped articles and coverings. These sheets are dimensionally accurate and can be wrapped perfectly onto differently shaped mandrels and cores.
  • ✅ Textile reinforcements: To reinforce the products, we skim-coat textile reinforcements using the calender. These provide additional stability, particularly for complex shapes and curvatures.
  • ✅ Cores and mandrels: For the production of wrapped articles, we use rotationally symmetrical cores made of metal or aluminium, manufactured in various geometries. Upon request, we can also use cores provided by the customer. If old coverings are present, we remove them professionally.

Processing Methods:

  • Wrapping process: Here, dimensionally accurate blank sheets drawn with the calender are wrapped layer by layer onto the cores and mandrels. This enables the production of multi-layered articles, such as hose rings or sleeves, made from different rubber compounds.
  • Mounting (pulling on): For thick-walled, single-layer wrapped articles and roller coverings, we manually pull pre-fabricated, mostly tubular, unvulcanised blanks onto the cores or mandrels.
  • Vulcanised coverings: For smaller rollers subject to lower stress, we use already vulcanised tubular sleeves, which are pulled onto metallic cores under tension and subsequently finished.

Materials:
We process all common rubber compounds to respond flexibly to our customers' requirements.
